Exchanging Dollars Into Pesos - The following was posted in Thursday's The Baja Pony Express:
EFFECTIVE TODAY the Mexican Govt. has instructed ALL BANKS IN MEXICO not to exchange ANY cash US dollars into pesos regardless of whether you have an FM2/3 or passport. Dollars may be deposited into dollar accounts (in Mexican banks) and exchanged into pesos
Travelers checks can be cashed and exchanged into pesos ATM cards can be used to get pesos
I confirmed this with the manager of Banamex who said it applies to ALL BANKS. I don't know if this effects Canadian dollars. Not sure if this applies to money exchange places. It will no longer be possible to pay Mexican Nationals in dollars as they will not be able to exchange them. This could effect people driving who plan to pay for gas/food, etc with dollars???
Thanks to Janet for the following info:Per Luis at Banorte, anyone who has an account there can still change dollars to pesos at the window, up to $1,000 dollars/day. The daily limit used to be $480, but has been raised to $1,000. Tourists, presumably, will have a problem.

Home Robberies - Just an FYI to all who have homes in the Las Tunas/Canada Honda area. Our home and my neighbors place were broken into around 2 AM March 16th. They cleaned out our bodegas and anything of remote value in the homes. They also took my neighbor's enclosed utility trailer to haul the larger items. Another neighbor was jolted awake when they broke several windows to gain access. He called the Policia but they had a hard time finding Las Playitas road. By the time they arrived an hour later, the banditos were long gone. If somebody tries to sell you a blue Yamaha EF2400is generator serial #7CF-1404310 it is stolen. This Saturday we will be having some acoustical music from Johnny Nicholson and friends from 7:30 to 9:30. That is April 17th, I hope this get out before then. You don't have to eat to come and listen and beers will be 10 pesos off regular price.
Finally on Sunday, the 2nd of May, we will be hosting a fine wine tasting get together. The wine and small snacks are free. It will be put on by Mac and Martine of the Bodega of Todos Santos, featuring only the best wines of Baja California. If you like what you try, there will be bottles and cases for sale. Cute Puppy Around Militar Near Tacos George Needs Help - We just ate at George's Tacos today (Friday) and encountered a cute little puppy obviously stray with a bad case of mange. This little girl is tan colored and very well behaved. We gave her some fish and, if we were not leaving the Baja in only 13 days, I would have taken her immediately and treated her. She is not more than 8 or 9 weeks old. She was good natured. She has sores all around the edges of her hairless ears, lots of hairless spots on her body and absolutely naked areas around her eyes. She needs someone to take her and care for her. She wandered over to the empty lot at the corner by the Maria Bonita hotel. We believe someone will adopt her and treat her. If you would love a little Baja puppy, please ask around and see if you can find her. If not for our move, she would be ours right now.
