CURP And Your Cell Phone - I received both a text message from Telcel and a voice message telling me to register my phone. The indicated web site wanted a CURP. The Mexican Government CURP site that I found from the Telcel page only worked for those born in Mexico. I went to my paperwork wizard in La Paz and got one. Then I went to a large Telcel office. Caution To Single Women Travelling North - Recently while driving north from Loreto I was stopped by four kids in army gear and one man in shorts.(he spoke English) They ordered me to get out of the car and when my dog barked they threatened her with a knife. While I was tying her up to a post they quickly pounced on my car and managed to extract $3000.00 pesos and a red Swiss army knife. They were laughing and kicking the car and then told me to leave. I did not notice my losses until I was further up the road. So much for trusting the Mexican Military. Has anyone had any similar experiences? Mexican CURP - The CURP is a number used by the Mexican govt for each person in Mexico, whether you are a citizen or a foreign resident. When I moved to Mexico in 1998 and lived with my FM3, it was required by my place of employment to obtain the CURP number. So I went to the Registro Civil and obtained my CURP number. It is free to obtain and took less than 15 minutes. I took my passport and birth certificate and FM3. I did it in Cabo San Lucas at the Registro Civil there. The CURP is a unique number given to individuals for identification purposes. (Think Social Security number in the US but without the retirement benefits etc.) I am now a Mexican citizen and still have my same CURP number. When I registered my cell phone with Renault, as a Mexican citizen, what the company asked for was my CURP number. For US citizens they asked for a copy of your passport. Since US citizens can also obtain a CURP number the Renault office might be requesting that number as well as the copy of the passport. I wouldn't just give out the number to some stranger over the telephone even though it may be legit. My dogs bark at 2 to 3 AM and I have found cigarett butts around every morning. Including a couple of discarded Raleigh Cigarro packages. Keep your eyes open and watch for Raieigh cigarro packages. Still Missing - Lost Dog - - Please help us find our dog! There was an accident on Sunday, January 3rd around 2 pm at KM 224 1/2 on highway 1, 55 km north of the Bahia Los Angeles turn off at Punta Prieta, in the Laguna Chapala area. The middle of nowhere. Our dog was inside the van that rolled and when he got out he ran off into the desert and we were unable to find him after searching hours and days. His name is "Pickle". He is a neutered, tan lab/great dane mix. He is very friendly, but I'm sure very scared. He was wearing a collar with a name tag that had our numbers on it; both U.S. and Mexico. He was last seen by a witness, running west into the desert at km 224 1/2.
