Short Report - This is the season that the shrimp boats come to the area to do their thing. They run their noisy diesel engines all night while dragging nets behind a scant mile or so from land, most times less. This is also a very important season for the whales, who are used to coming to these waters way before the shrimpers from Sinaloa came here because they over-fished the gulf waters. Last night, amongst the thunderous waves smashing the beach and the noisy diesel engines, a BABY MALE WHALE DIED AND WASHED UP ON THE BEACH. It is a crying shame that these shrimp boats should be so close to the shore, it is a sad day for a mother whale. Can anyone do anything about getting these shrimpers or trawlers or whatever it is they are to fish at least 5 miles from the shores? Aren't whales protected? Is it possible that a museum in Todos Santos would like to have a whale skeleton to display?
Also, on another sad note, 5 of the 7 turtle nests that were at this beach got marauded by scavengers and all the eggshells are empty and scattered along the beach. wow! what a loss of life! sad to report. - anonymous, Elias Calles

Dancing Under The Stars - We are pleased to share the good news with the community that this event raised 36,350 pesos plus $805 U.S. thanks to the generosity of all who attended and supported this event in so many ways. The proceeds came from several sources: ticket sales, bar proceeds (a special thank you to Jenny Armit of Hotelito for her generosity in donating all bar proceeds), raffle ticket sales, donations and the auction for the helicopter ride. These funds will be used to support the Youth in Video Project, a local project sponsored by Festival de Cine de Todos Santos for young people to learn how to create and produce their own videos. -
