Basura In Las Brisas - There have been recent sightings of gringos dumping garbage in large plastic garbage bags on the side of the road in Las Brisas. Plastic is not biodegradable and will be there forever. Please respect the community and your neighbors and take your garbage to the dump.

Response To Request To Take Pups North - Just wanted to share our experience in hopes it will encourage others. We brought back a wonderful homeless puppy to the States. It cost with papers, vaccinations, airfare about $200. We put the puppy on craigslist. We asked the people who took the puppy for a donation of $150 which they gratefully gave us. The whole process was relatively painless, except by the time we gave it away we were totally enamored with our little mexican mutt. Our son fostered and then adopted a puppy from Mariposa. She is a wonderful, interesting, smart dog living here. We find that homeless dogs from the baja desert are wonderful pets and add the word rescued to the ad on craigslist and your inbox will light up. - Robert Ingram

INFONAVIT Notice (Courtesy Baja Pony Express) - Dear Los Barriles home owners,
INFONAVIT (National Institute for Worker´s Housing Fund) is auditing constructions built between 2004 to 2009, all the way from La Paz to Los Cabos, constructions include from a wall to a home. Their officers are visiting los Barriles with a long list of names that applied for construction licenses between these years (Mexicans and Americans). If you are on their list a notice for compliance or clarification will be placed on your door, it does not matter if you are away or out of the country, you or your representative will have 6 working days to appear before the INFONAVIT offices in La Paz to start the clarification process and submit any documents they may be requiring. If you do not comply with the notice you may be awarded a fine up to 14,000 pesos ( approx 1000 USD).
Please note that the 6 days term is for you or your representative to appear answering to the notice and start the clarification process. As long as someone appears on your behalf and starts gathering the data required the fine won’t be generated.
We suggest you contact your contractor, accountant or person who was making these payments during construction phase in order to check if you are on their list and avoid being notified while away and fined.
If you would like for us to check if you are on the list, receive the notification for you and help you gather the data from your accountant or Engineer in Charge of the Construction please contact us at info [-at-] paradiseinbaja.com
P.S. Infonavit payments are like IMSS (Social Security payments) and are mandatory payments to workers during the construction Phase.

Corazon Vaquero - A beautifully filmed documentary about ranch life in Baja, this DVD was the hit of the Latin American Film Festival here in Todos Santos. I have had a hard time keeping it stocked at El Tecolote Bookstore but recently received another shipment of 20 and have 15 left. Many people who have rented it or viewed a friend's copy have come in to buy it as a gift. If you are one of the many who have been waiting for it, come get your copy. Just Moved To Town - We just moved to town and have 3 kids that are very bored because they do not have toys and also because we only get two channels on tv in spanish. The kids do not yet speak or understand spanish. I have some dvds for them in english but no DVD player. SO I need toys for a 2,3 & 10 year old. The older 2 are girls. I also need some clothes for them (summer) and some jackets for when it does get cooler.
