Pledging Our Energies For A Better Los Cabos - C.A.R.E. the San Jose Del Cabo Humane Society and the Humane Society of Cabo San Lucas are very excited to announce that, as of June 1st, 2009, the two societies have merged!. We have honored the need for growth and now are one under the name of the “Los Cabos Humane Society”.
Spay and Neuter Clinics will continue at the Los Cabos Humane Society Animal Center. These clinics are announced as they are organized. Just this past weekend 65 animals were altered in one of our two day clinics! Clients may also go to specified local veterinarians and redeem Los Cabos Humane Society Spay and Neuter Coupons for free sterilization. Appointments for free pick-up and return of pets can be made with our LCHS van driver, Gerardo Moreno. He can be contacted at 044 624 141 9291.

Arson! - Our home was deliberately and methodically burned down by someone. We settled in the otro lado(barrio el rio)20 years ago, when Todos was undiscovered, and life was sweet and safe. We improved our casa over the years and put our heart and souls into our little oasis. Now, it's all up in smoke and we are saddened beyond words. Why someone would do such a dispicable and cowardly crime we have no idea. Driving And Travel Insurance Tips For The Usa - Since the Onion has helped me out many times I thought I would pass on some tools that I have found useful when "vacationing" north across the border.
Many of us live primarily here in Baja Sur, but what do we do about the ridiculous auto and medical insurance situation in the US if we want to be responsible while travelling there? For those who are flying up via Alaska Airlines you will see upon checkout online an option for travel insurance via www.accessamerica.com This is not just trip protection but also covers emergency medical costs up to $10,000 USD and emergency transportation back to Mexico of up to $50,000 USD.
Of course I have never made a claim but the cost is very low and given that my Mexico medical insurance does not cover me in the USA I have been using this option every time I fly.
For DRIVING up to the US I recently researched all options for driving a US-plated vehicle back to our summer place in Oregon,with my Mexican wife also occasionally driving, and I finally found a company that would cover the vehicle for just 3 months. After all why pay for a year if you are only driving there 2 or 3 months? The compnay was GEICO and the policy was less than $200.00 USD, liability only, but the key for me was that they will insure even with my wife driving under her Mexican license. RE: Keep Baja Safe And Clean - I feel angry about the “Keep Baja Safe and Clean” comment in the last Onion. I have been coming to Todos Santos for more than five years and I try to come as often as I can. Why because it is one of the few places on Earth where I can feel safe walking the streets anytime of day or night, and yes, because of the warm loving, and friendly community. I am not aware of a single case of Swine flu in Todos or the Southern Baja.
In all my years in Baja I have never been robbed or treated badly. I was ticketed once for running the one and only stop light in town, my fault and the police were very polite. I just returned to California after 10 days in Todos Santos. Since crossing the border my car was searched for 20 minutes by home land security, I have been ticketed for a faulty headlight, and the smog and traffic are killing me.
