Smart Card - If you don't already have your "smart card" for Dish network users , do not delay in calling the number if flashed on your TV screen. I talked to them yesterday and was told my card was sent out on Feb 19th to my San Ysidro address (mail boxes etc. NOT a very reliable service). They said that they allowed 1 month to arrive then at that time another notice would appear on your screen #989 and you should then call in and get an extension of 3 to 4 weeks. Your programming would definitely not be interrupted. They were not willing to give me an extension at that point in time. WRONG! I was watching TV this a.m. about 8 hours after the call and the notice came on the screen with a #989 code and I lost my programming within 5 mins. I called immediately and was just giving the codes displayed on this screen so that they could resume my service when I was cut off. This costs a" bundle" on a cell phone and is frustrating. Bringing Car Down From States? - I will be driving a vehicle to Pescadero to keep for my frequent trips to Baja. Can anyone provide me with details of keeping a car in Mexico. Is there a problem at the border doing so? Is there a time limit imposed? Any special permits needed? As a gringo can I (and should I)import the car and register it in Baja? What is best bet for insuring it while in Mex? My trips are usually two weeks at a time so will it benefit me to keep it insured or to pay daily for insurance? Local Treasures Celebrated At El Tecolote Book Store - The local film festival hit, "Corazon Vaquero", showcasing the lives of the Baja vaqueros, is now available for rent at El Tecolote. Another Baja treasure, the Leatherback Turtle, is revered in Carl Safina's book "Voyage of the Turtle." The only surviving species of its genus, family and suborder, the Leatherback is an evolutionary marvel: a "reptile" that behaves like a warm-blooded dinosaur, an ocean animal able to withstand colder water than most fishes and dive deepr than any whale.
